Those of you who know me well, know that I'm not a huge fan of winter!
But, there's somethin' about snow...
Louisville got more than a dusting of the white stuff this week which put kinks in kids' school schedules and, ergo, mother's work, workout & laundry maintenance plans... But there was something about THIS snow...
Yeah, the snow plows left the remnants of their efforts piled as high as the driver's side door of my little CRV and the side roads resemble ice rinks without the luxury of a Zamboni grooming ... but the Girls on Speed were able to venture out into the Winter Wonderland for a long-overdue round of heavy-duty sledding on the beautiful and somewhat dangerous slopes of Dog Hill in Cherokee Park. We were grateful to have Kristin with us! We were grateful that Horton's Hardware was open @ 8:00 and actually had salt (to melt the unwanted snow/ice) and sleds (to take advantage of the very much appreciated snow on hills). We were also grateful for ample cardiac and pulmonary capacity, as the treks UP Dog Hill were nothing short of butt-kicking. The rides DOWN Dog Hill were nothing short of breath taking ... just ask Kate, who collided with the only tree at the end of Dog Hill - which literally knocked the wind out of her...
... and persuaded her mother to avoid the risk of a hip fracture
... and convinced her older sister that the only other Blizzard they were going to embrace was the one you purchase at Dairy Queen
But 7-year-olds bounce back and - as you can see - Kate ventured back out into the elements to help create our very own Snow Penguin.
So the next time I'm mouthing off & claiming that the only good thing about winter is basketball season, please remind me of the wonderful day spent with my two girls (and the fact that on this same day, my beloved Wildcats got spanked by the 'Dores... sigh)...
